I’m logging back on here and reviving this partially abandoned blog purely to speak in support of the Wheel of Time TV series. I’ve just finished watching series 3, and it was INCREDIBLE.
The cast, the costumes, the set, the effects… honestly I don’t know how they could have done it better. Some of the changes to the original storyline had me cackling away in a manner that scared the dog, or open-mouthed with shock, and I really felt it all worked. You can probably tell from my own writings that I was a huge fan of the books, and I’ll say this again, TV *shouldn’t* match everything authors write. Jordan was an excellent storyteller, but let’s be honest, some of his ideas haven’t aged well.
What HASN’T worked for this series is the marketing. I had no idea there even WAS a series 3. And yet I’m fairly well immersed in fantasy advertising on my social media feeds. The message about the TV series just never reached me. Amazon executives apparently cancelled it because of dwindling audiences - well, they have only themselves to blame in my opinion. The show itself was excellent quality - but did enough people know about it?
Please, someone give the costume and set departments all the awards in the cupboard. Give this show the profile and adulation it truly deserves.
Oh, and if you don’t come out of this with a crush on Lanfear (regardless of your prior orientation) go and get your eyes checked.
